Season 7 Episode 22 "Take Two"
(Commotion is heard outside. Rory and Lorelai look out the window to see bicyclists riding by. One cyclist loses control and crashes into a car. It's Kirk. Kirk removes his helmet just as Taylor comes over to exclaim over his car damage.)
Scene One
(Rory's graduation re-enactment ceremony in the town square. Rory's graduation picture is blown up into a six foot tall banner with the words, "Congratulations Rory" across it. The high school band is assembled and tuning their instruments. Taylor is going over his cue card notes. Kirk is holding the diploma. Rows of chairs are quickly filling with neighbors and friends. Rory is standing to off the side in her cap and gown next to Lorelai.)
Rory
Remind me again of why I am doing this?
Lorelai
Well, because you don't want to disappoint everyone who couldn't make it to the actual ceremony who have loved you since you were a baby, because you get to eat more cake which this time is Sookie-made and not whatever store bought blah cake Yale was serving-
Rory
Mmm, I do love Sookie's cakes.
Lorelai
-and also so you can have another opportunity to wear your graduation outfit. And so we can make references to The Graduate.
Rory
(Smiles) Well this whole idea sounds pretty half baked.
Lorelai
(smiles back) Oh, it's not. It's completely baked.
Babette
(approaches Lorelai and Rory)
Are you ready hun? You look so beautiful! I'm right in the front row next to Morey and Patty. Patty and I will be taking so many pictures you just might go blind! Oh, I won't need my flash on with the sun shinning and all but I don't know how to turn it off. I need Morey. Morey! (leaves)
Taylor
(Stands before the crowd with his hand in the air to catch their attention.) All right, quiet down everyone. It's time to begin our Stars Hollow re-enactment of Rory Gilmore's graduation. (points to band director who begins conducting the band playing Pomp and Circumstance. Lorelai walks to her seat in the front next to Sookie. As she walks she spots Luke in a nearby row and they half smile at each other. Fade out.)
Gilmore Girls Theme Song "Where You Lead" Intro
Scene Two
(Re-enactment ceremony is over. Rory is getting hugs from Gypsy, Jackson, Michel, etc. Sookie is cutting up and serving Rory's graduation cake. Lorelai comes over for some cake.)
Sookie
Here you go. So that was fun, huh? Rory was such a doll to do this.
Lorelai
Well I think Rory and I would have been shunned from the town if we didn't. But I think she really enjoyed it. This town has been like a family to her. I know when the time comes, she will have a hard time leaving.
Sookie
Has she heard from any other newspapers?
Lorelai
Not yet. I'm not worried, though. Rory will find her place in the world soon enough.
(Lorelai looks toward Rory who is having her picture taken with Lane. Luke approaches Rory.)
Luke
Hi Rory, I just wanted to say congratulations.
Rory
Thank you. And thank you for the earrings. (points to her ears where she is wearing the earrings.)
Luke
Oh, you like them? Well, that's good. I mean, cause if you don't then I could always exchange them-
Rory
No, I love them. Thank you, Luke.
Luke
(Hugs Rory) I'm so proud of you.
Scene Three
Dinner at Emily & Richard Gilmore's House. Everyone is gathered at the table eating salads.
Lorelai
(In mid conversation) From there we will drive to Six Flags in Massachusetts where we will ride the ultimate roller coaster, Bizarro. (changes voice to sound scary) Welcome to the twisted world of Bizarro, Superman's dark evil twin.
Emily
Bizarro? Honestly, where do they come up with these names?
Lorelai
I know. I would have gone with something like "Freakishly Off The Wall ride or Where's Waldo.
Rory
Where's Waldo?
Lorelai
Think about it. First you travel up 208 feet and you're all like, "Hmm, maybe Waldo is up here on top of this hill yodeling or bird watching, and then thunk, you blast down 221 feet into a tunnel going over 70 miles per hour hoping to greet Waldo with a flashlight riding parallel in a bullet train-
Richard
Sounds terrifying.
Emily
I'm getting nauseous just listening to this.
Lorelai
-and out of the tunnel you ride onto the next hill and there are all these sideways turns and more hills. When you are finally done you've had so much fun that you no longer care where Waldo is.
Rory
It's going to be amazing, Grandma.
Emily
Just promise me you won't eat before going on that ridiculous ride. Are you girls going to do anything else besides theme parks? Perhaps you could visit Monticello or Jamestown.
Lorelai
Mom, this trip is about having fun. Rory is done with school. Her brain is reached its peak of information taking. Anymore knowledge and her brain might start leaking.
Rory
I hope not.
Richard
Rory is like me, an eternal student. While she has completed her academic training, she has yet to embark on the journey of knowledge that the world has to offer her. (Cook enters with plates and distributes them. He looks down at his plate.) I see that tonight I get to eat something other than fish. Emily, my palette thanks you.
Rory
(cell phone rings) Excuse me, I need to take this.
Richard
Go ahead, Rory.
Emily
(to Lorelai) Is everything all right?
Lorelai
I'm sure she's fine, Mom.
Emily
Do you think it's Logan calling? Rory should really reconsider his proposal. After all, he is a Huntzberger.
Lorelai
Mom, she has made her decision and I agree with her. She is too young to get married.
Emily
Oh well. (Pause) You know, I wouldn't mind doing some traveling this summer. Maybe Tuscany or Rome? What do you think?
Lorelai
I think you should go to Los Angeles.
Emily
Los Angeles? Why on Earth would I want to go there?
Lorelai
You could visit the Griffith Observatory, shop on Rodeo Drive, go wine tasting. It would be fun.
Emily
Surrounding by diseased hippies and tourists? No thank you.
Lorelai
And then after a day of wine tasting you could drive drunk, get arrested, and share a jail cell with Paris Hilton.
Emily
Lorelai Gilmore!
Lorelai
Then the two of you could arrange a break out and hide in one of her many worldwide Hilton hotels.
Richard
That's enough.
Emily
Honestly, why must you say such ridiculous things? I-
(Rory rushes back into the room with a grin on her face.)
Lorelai
(mutters under her breath) Saved by the bell.
Emily
Rory, what is it?
Rory
I got it! The New York Times internship! I got accepted!
Emily
But you said they rejected you.
Rory
Well they did at first but they just called and the person they picked was disqualified and I was next on their list so...I just can't believe it! This is my dream job. I need to sit down.
Richard
I knew something had to be amiss for Rory to be rejected.
Emily
Oh, never mind! (Hugs Rory) Congratulations, Rory! Now Richard and I can purchase that apartment like we planned. I must get on the phone with my realtor right away. (Leaves the room)
Richard
(hugs Rory) My granddaughter, the future journalist for the New York Times!
Rory
It's an internship at least.
Richard
My dear, you are too modest. This calls for a toast. I'll get the champagne. (Leaves room.)
Lorelai
(Hugs Rory). Oh Rory, this is so wonderful!
Rory
I can't believe it! I was so worried when every newspaper I applied to had turned me down. I began to second guess myself and my choices...I'm just so happy! I'm moving to New York!
Lorelai
(Sadly, but smiling) You're moving to New York.
Scene Four
It's nighttime and Lorelai walks into Luke's Diner. Luke is wiping down tables.
Luke
Hey, I'm closing up.
Lorelai
I can see that. Actually I wanted to order food for tomorrow. Rory and I are taking a road trip. I was thinking sandwiches, chips, brownies, pie, fries...
Luke
And a defibrillator to restart your hearts after you eat all that? You know you will need a cooler to keep all that food fresh in the summer heat.
Lorelai
I hadn't thought of that. Throw in a cooler too and some ice. (pause) Just kidding. I borrowed a cooler from Sookie.
Luke
All right. I will have everything ready to go in the morning. Good night.
Lorelai
Um...good night to you too. (Turns to leave, then turns back). Okay, Luke, I can't take it anymore. Are you mad at me because of the song?
Luke
No, I'm not mad about the song. Why would I be? It didn't mean anything, right?
Lorelai
Well-
Luke
Because that's what you told Patty and Babette when they asked.
Lorelai
Oh, you heard that.
Luke
And hey, it's not like I wanted that song to mean something either. You and I are over, but did you have to announce it to the town like that?
Lorelai
I didn't mean for you to hear that, Luke. I didn't know what I was saying. Miss Patty and Babette caught me off guard and the words just came out.
Luke
Right, the words just came out just like when you sang that song.
Lorelai
I sang that song for Rory! She wanted me to sing.
Luke
But you weren't looking at Rory when you sang it. You were looking at me!
Lorelai
Yes I know that! I got caught up in the moment. Our eyes met and I felt...
Luke
What? Felt what?
Lorelai
(pause) Love.
(Luke and Lorelai stare at each other for a moment and then they kiss passionately.)
Scene Five
(Lorelai wakes up in Luke's apartment lying next to Luke. Lorelai kisses him and then looks for her clothes.)
Luke
Don't go.
Lorelai
I have to. I'm already late. (Finds her phone) I've missed three calls from Rory. (Dials Rory) Hi honey. I'm on my way. I'm just getting coffee from Luke's and then I will be right back. Okay, see you soon. (Hangs up and looks at Luke). It's only two weeks. I'll be back before you know it.
Luke
(kisses Lorelai) I love you.
Lorelai
I love you too.
Scene Six
(Two weeks later. Rory and Lorelai go to Luke's Diner for breakfast. They sit at their usual table.)
Lorelai
I am so hungry. I barely made it to the table!
Rory
I'm surprised we are so hungry after all the hot dogs, funnel cake, and ice cream we ate on vacation.
Lorelai
We are Lorelai and Rory. Our stomachs are made of steel. They can handle anything. (Yells) Except being empty!
(Luke appears and smiles as he comes to their table.)
Luke
Welcome back! How was the trip?
Lorelai
No talking until I eat food.
Rory
Yes, we are famished.
Luke
So what will it be?
Lorelai
Pancakes, waffles, orange juice, scrambled eggs, bacon, and hash browns. And two blueberry muffins.
Luke
Okay, coming right up.
Rory
And the same for me.
(Luke smiles wryly and heads to the kitchen.)
Rory
He seems to be in an awfully chipper mood this morning. I wonder why that is?
Lorelai
Um, he found his lucky baseball cap?
Rory
If that's the case then why is he wearing the one you gave him?
Lorelai
(smiling innocently) I don't know. But seriously, you are okay with this?
Rory
Okay with what?
Lorelai
You know. Me and Luke. We talked about it on the car ride.
Rory
Yeah, I'm just teasing. Of course I am. I'm happy for you two.
(Luke brings over orange juice and muffins. They each take a bite.)
Luke
So now can I ask questions?
Lorelai
I don't think so. In fact, I would like to order dessert.
Luke
Dessert? But you haven't eaten your breakfast yet.
Lorelai
Doesn't matter. I will have Marshmallow Mermaid Pie.
Luke
What?
Rory
That sounds good. I'll have the same.
Lorelai
Marshmallow Mermaid Pie. I saw it in a movie. But don't make it fishy tasting. More marshmallow, less fin.
Luke
I'm not making some made up pie. There's peach or apple pie.
Lorelai
Be careful, Luke or I will order you a Kick In The Pants Pie. Toot sweet and thank you!
(Luke rolls his eyes. Lorelai stands up and kisses him. The townspeople applaud. Luke returns to the kitchen and Lorelai sits down.)
Rory
Waitress was a good movie.
Lorelai
(Takes her hand) Rory, "if I had a penny for everything I love about you, I would have many pennies".
Rory
"Your love is like a beating drum"
Together
"Bum ba bum ba bum ba bum."
(Laugh together. End Scene.)
Scene Seven
(Six months later. It's snowing lightly outside. Luke is bundled in a coat in the town square waiting. Kirk approaches.)
Kirk
Hi, Luke. Everyone's in the meeting hall.
Luke
Okay. I'm just waiting on Lorelai and Rory.
Kirk
Isn't it always like women to run late? Lulu has kept me waiting on a number of occasions. Like when-
Luke
Kirk, I'm really not in the mood right now to hear one of your stories.
Kirk
Gotcha. I guess I'm just nervous. I've got quite the important job tonight. I'm wearing my best clothes for the occasion. (Kirk opens his coat and shows Luke) Do I look good?
Luke
You look great, Kirk.
(April approaches.)
April
Hey Dad. They are ready!. Brr! Why are we doing this at night again?
Luke
Because Lorelai loves the snow fall at night. Thanks for being here.
April
Of course. I wouldn't miss it.
Luke
Could you let everyone know it's time?
April
Okay.
Luke
Thanks, April.
(Studio doors open.)
Kirk
Places everyone!
(Luke removes his coat. He is wearing a tux. The townspeople walk out of the studio all dressed up and carrying lit candles. They move to the center of the square and form two aisles. Kirk and Luke stand in the back. Miss Patty stands beside them and as music plays she begins to sing, At Last. Emily Gilmore is in the front row.
Everyone turns to look down the aisle as Rory approaches in a light blue dress with a bouquet in her hands. She smiles widely as she walks down the aisle toward Luke. She moves to the left and turns with everyone to watch as Lorelai emerges in a beautiful white wedding gown with white flowers in her hair. Lorelai glows with happiness as she smiles at everyone and then at Luke while walking arm in arm with her father. Richard kisses her on the cheek before moving to the aisle. Lorelai stands next to Luke and Kirk begins the ceremony.)
Kirk
We are gathered here tonight to join Luke Danes and Lorelai Gilmore in the bonds of holy matrimony.
Kirk's voice fades as we watch Luke and Lorelai stare into each other's eyes. They exchange rings and we hear the I do's.
Kirk
By the power vested in me by oneminuteminister, com, I now pronounce you man and wife.
Sookie
It's about time!
(Everyone laughs and claps as Luke and Lorelai kiss.)
Scene Eight
(One year later, Rory and Lorelai are standing about five feet from each other in the living room with their backs to us. They each have their hands on their hips. Suddenly they turn toward each other and we can see their large bellies. Scene viewed through a video camera lens.)
(Luke hands Lorelai and Rory small dumbells and they make an effort to life them into the air to work out music.)
Rory
Is this really necessary?
Lorelai
Huh, I guess not. Okay, lets move on to the song.
Luke takes the dumbells and helps Rory sit down on the couch. Sookie pushes Michel forward and he and Luke stare awkwardly into the camera while Lorelai holds Luke's hand.)
Lorelai
Uh, hello? Anytime now guys.
Luke
Do I have to?
Michel
This is so embarrassing.
Lorelai
Yes, you do. It's for me. Make me happy.
Michel
(lack of enthusiasm as he reads cue cards) Oh hello. My favorite father of the bride.
Luke
(reads cue cards) Hi, how are you?
Michel
Nina, you look beautiful. Imagine running into you here of all places. So nothing is wrong? Your health is good?
Luke
No, we are good. Perfect. Healthy and nothing to report.
Sookie
I'm the nurse! (Moves next to Lorelai and hands her a bottle of pills) Here Mrs. Banks, you forgot your prenatal vitamins, your mommy pamphlets and your baby's first picture.
Michel
(monotone) You are pregnant? I can't believe it. Let's throw a party.
Luke
No party.
Michael
(sings) Every party has a pooper, that's why we've invited you. Party pooper. Party pooper. (drops cards) I'm done.
Jackson
(puts down camera) That was good everyone. (Babette and Miss Patty clap.)
Michel
No, it was terrible.
Sookie
Michel, our real life party pooper.
Rory
Come on Michel! It's all your fault anyway. You let Mom pick the baby shower theme.
Jackson
Who knew that Father of the Bride Part Two was a baby shower theme?
Michel
I certainly didn't.
Babette
Time for presents!
(Everyone helps carry gifts over to Lorelai.)
Rory
(touches belly) George is getting awfully heavy.
Lorelai
(touches her belly) Megan is too. I can't wait until we go into labor together.
Luke
Geez. Okay men, let's leave the women to their baby time and go watch the game. Grabs some beers.
Michel
I do not like sports. I will stay here.
(Front door opens and unknown male walks through. His smile drops when he looks at Rory).
Austin
Did I miss something?
Rory
Austin, you made it! Help me up.
(Austin helps Rory to her feet and she kisses him. Austin rubs her belly. Rory laughs as she lifts up her shirt and unsnaps the faux pregnancy bump and tosses it aside.)
Rory
Did I scare you?
Austin
Only with the thought that the child wasn't mine.
Rory
Everyone, this is my boyfriend, Austin. (Everyone says hi) Luke and Jackson are gonna watch the game. I don't know sports but I'm guessing it's football. You wanna join them?
Austin
Sounds great. See you in a bit.
(Austin kisses her then he, Luke and Jackson leave).
Lorelai
Not fair! I want to take my baby bump off!
Miss Patty
Do you have any names picked out yet?
Lorelai
Well, if they are boys I am considering Beau and Arrow and if girls Rory Jr. and Rory III.
Rory
Mom!
Babette
How about Babette? It's got a cute ring to it.
Lorelai
Yeah I will think about it. Okay gimme some presents!
(Lorelai pulls matching outfits out of a bag and everyone oohs and aahs as the scene ends.)
Scene Nine
(Lorelai is working at the inn greeting guests as they check in.)
Lorelai
Good morning Mr. and Mrs. McCann, I hope you have enjoyed your stay with us.
Mrs. McCann
Indeed we have. Such a charming inn! We enjoyed the picnic and golf I enjoyed flower picking and creating bouquets while Tom here took a nap. (Sees two baby carriers) Oh, who are these little ones?
Lorelai
This is my daughter, Tessa and my son, Josh. They aren't usually at work with me.
Mrs. McCann
They are so adorable! How old are they?
Lorelai
Good question. Let's see, when did I last sleep through the night...Oh that's right. They're four months old.
Mr. McCann
Dear, we should be going.
Mrs. McCann
All right. Thank you Ms. Gilmore.
(A teenager about 16 years old arrives in a rush.)
Becky
I am so sorry I'm late, Lorelai! My alarm didn't go off though I specifically remember setting it last night. I promise it won't happen again. (grabs carriers). I will drive them safely back to your house.
Lorelai
Great and be sure to feed them bottles in twenty minutes and burp Tessa for at least ten minutes or she gets really gassy and play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on repeat until they fall asleep. Oh and Josh's favorite blanket is in the dryer.
Becky
The blue one with the elephant on it. Got it.
(Lorelai bends down and kisses her babies.)
See you tonight!
Lorelai
Drive safe! (cell phone rings) Hi Rory!
Rory
Hi Mom. How's life of the sleep deprived mother?
Lorelai
Are you asking me for a news story because I could give you the inside scoop with all of its smelly and wet details?
Rory
I will let you know if the New York Times is ever looking for an expose. Speaking of, did you read my article?
Lorelai
Yes, I read it to Josh last night. He dosed off but I thought it was amazing. Your grandparents are having it framed as we speak. So how is life as an official journalist?
Rory
It's fun and demanding and everything I had hoped it would be. I've got my own cubicle with pictures of you and Luke and my new baby brother and sister.
Lorelai
Tessa and Josh miss you. When can you come visit?
Rory
I miss them too and I miss you. Austin and I are going to Tokyo next week.
Lorelai
Tokyo?
Rory
He's got a photo shoot there but he asked me to come along. You know I've always wanted to go to Asia.
Lorelai
Yes. So you and Austin have been seeing each other for quite a while now.
Rory
Almost a year.
Lorelai
So let me ask you...on a scale from Jess to Dean, where does he rank?
Rory
I would rank him as a Logan but without the vast fortune or pompous father. He's great, Mom. You've met him and you said you like him. He's smart and funny and thoughtful and he really makes me happy. Other than you and Lane, Austin is my best friend.
Lorelai
That's great, hun. So back to Tokyo. What are you going to do?
Rory
Austin's promised to show me the Sensoji Temple and while he's working I'm going to shop in Asakusa and find Tessa a tiny kimono and then we will have dinner at Robot Restaurant.
Lorelai
Aw! With actual robots? (robot voice) Konnichiwa, may I take your order?
Rory
Konnichiwa is good afternoon. Konbonwa is good evening.
Lorelai
Well I will have to brush up on my Japanese before you come home. Maybe Tessa's first word will be Konnichiwa. You never know.
Rory
I promise I will come visit as soon as I can. How is the nanny working out?
Lorelai
Becky? She's, you know, a typical teenager. She's not quite the straight laced responsible teenager you were but the twins like her and Luke and I couldn't function without her. Give us a month without Becky and we could audition to be robots at that restaurant.
Rory
(laughs) Hey, I've got to get back to work. So I will call you when we land in Tokyo.
Lorelai
Okay babe. Sayounara!
(Ends call. Lorelai goes into the kitchen where Sookie is cooking.)
Sookie
Hi. I take it Becky finally showed up?
Lorelai
Yes. This whole bringing my kids to work with my act is becoming all too familiar only double the pleasure, double the fun. I'm glad I packed an extra shirt after Tessa spat up on me.
Sookie
Aw. Tessa's a sweet girl. Not like my Henry. When Henry was Tessa's age he would cry all night long. Davy and Martha asked if we could return him as if we had bought him from a store. He got over it, though.
Lorelai
I don't know how you do it with three kids. I mean I have three but mine are spaced out twenty some years apart. I feel so old!
Sookie
Between the sitters and the occasional spa days it all works out. Jackson loves being home with the kids. I just wish he would clean up after them.
Lorelai
Here here! So what are you making?
Sookie
I'm preparing chicken cordon bleu with prosciutto wrapped asparagus and fruit salad and for dessert...chocolate ganache.
Lorelai
(Tastes the chocolate sauce) Mmm this is sinfully delicious. Okay, I have a million things to do. Pick up invitations at the printers, order decorations-
Sookie
Hold on. What's in your hair?
Lorelai
(Fingers her hair and finds a dried white substance.) Ew, I've got spit up in my hair. Okay make that a million and one things to do. Wash my hair. I need to get my hair done anyway. Leaving now, have Michel hold down the fort! (Rushes out the door.)
Scene Ten
(Two month later. Lorelai holding Tessa at table in Luke's diner. Rory walks in. They hug.)
Lorelai
How's my number one daughter?
Rory
Am I number one just chronologically or by preference?
Lorelai
Huh. I guess you will never know.
Rory
Hi sis! (takes Tessa in her arms). I love her pudgy cheeks.
Lorelai
Me too. I also love that even though she is only six months old she totally gets my humor.
Rory
She is a fast learner. And where is my little brother?
Luke
(Appears with baby in his arms) Right here. Hi Rory, it's good to see you.
Rory
You too. (holds Josh's hand) Hi Josh!
Lorelai
Did he just wake up? (takes Tessa back)
Luke
Yep about fifteen minutes ago. I changed his diaper and gave him a bottle.
Lorelai
(to Rory) I have this one well trained. Luke has gone from "drop another baby in this mess" to father of the year.
Luke
I never said that.
Lorelai
Oh yes, you did. Sookie can back me up.
Luke
Well... that was long before I became a father. People are allowed to change. I love being a Dad. I could do without the diapers and sticky fingers but overall it's great. Especially now that I have a son. (To Josh.) Do me a favor big guy and grow up fast to help me deal with these three.
Rory
How is April?
Luke
April is doing really well. She will be a senior in the fall. She's registered for AP science classes. And she...has a boyfriend.
Rory
A boyfriend, huh? Have you met him?
Luke
No but let's just say he's lucky that I don't live with April.
(Miss Patty and Babette enter the diner.)
Babette
Oh, would you take a look at this? The whole family together in one place! Let me see that handsome boy. (Luke hands Josh to Babette.)
Miss Patty
Hi Josh! Aunt Babette and I got you a little something. (Pulls out baby blue baseball cap out of purse and places it backwards on his head)
Babette
Now he looks just like his dad!
Rory
That is so adorable!
Lorelai
Thank you Miss Patty and Babette!
Miss Patty
Rory, how are you? We've missed seeing your face around here.
Rory
I'm good. I've been busy working in New York. I've missed you too. I've missed everybody.
Miss Patty
Lorelai, can I hold her? (Lorelai passes Tessa to Miss Patty who does some baby talk with her.) I just had a great idea! My dance class is having a recital next week and little Tessa here would be a fabulous little star! What do you think?
Lorelai
Oh! Well as long as she's not the kind of star with pointy sharp edges then it's okay with me.
Miss Patty
Wonderful!
(More town people enter the diner and surround Miss Patty and Babette to see the twins.)
Luke
That's my cue to get back to work. (pulls out his order pad) So what can I get you ladies?
Rory
Burgers and fries please.
Lorelai
With extra ketchup.
Rory
And cheese.
Lorelai
And bring out our food on a large plate in the shape of a smiley face with burgers for the eyes.
Luke
No.
Lorelai
Sarcastic face?
Luke
No.
Rory
Melodramatic face?
Lorelai
Clown face?
Luke
(Huffs) No. (pause) I'll see what I can do. (goes to kitchen).
Lorelai
So long do I have you before you have to go back?
Rory
I have this whole week off. I am completely yours.
Lorelai
No Austin?
Rory
Austin is busy in New York with work. Besides he knows how important it is for me to have time with you.
Lorelai
He's been well trained too.
(Commotion is heard outside. Rory and Lorelai look out the window to see bicyclists riding by. One cyclist loses control and crashes into a car. It's Kirk. Kirk removes his helmet just as Taylor comes over to exclaim over his car damage.)
Taylor
Kirk, what have you done to my car?
Kirk
Better question is, what has your car done to my bike?
Taylor
A flat tire is no comparison to the scratched paint and dent in my car, Kirk!
Kirk
I never would have hit your car if it hadn't been for the cat.
Taylor
Cat? What cat? There was no cat!
Kirk
A squirrel then.
(Kirk and Taylor's voices fade as the focus is shifted back inside the diner.)
Rory
It's good to know some things will never change. I wish I could shrink Stars Hollow and put it in a snow globe to take with me wherever I go.
Lorelai
It would be very cramped in there. Think about it. We would all be so tiny that you could hardly see us. And Lane is so short you wouldn't see her at all. And Tessa-
Rory
I'm just saying that life has taken me from Stars Hollow to New Haven to New York City and who knows where I may be in five or ten years from now.
Lorelai
Rory, this crazy, quirky close-knit town of ours will always be your home. You take a piece of Stars Hollow with you wherever you go. Luke and Sookie and Kirk and everyone who lives here make up this giant puzzle and it wouldn't be complete without you. I wouldn't be complete without you.
Rory
I love you, Mom.
Lorelai
I love you too.
(Rory and Lorelai continue talking animatedly as their voices fade. La la la theme music swells and camera pulls back.)
The End
